Advertising Policy

All advertising, promotions and communications must meet SAMRU’s advertising standards and principles, which are guided by the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards (CCAS).

Allowed advertising, promotions and communications will not create a setting that detracts from the business and service operations in Wyckham House, including, but not limited to the Food Court. Restrictions may include, but are not limited to, any of the following:

  1. Content or expression that leverages fear, sensitive political or cultural topics, tragic events, or salacious content;
  2. Content or expression including blood, gore, organs, body parts, or bodily fluids;
  3. Content or expression that harasses or degrades others, threatens people, or has the potential to intimidate, exclude or silence others;
  4. Images of guns or weapons or replicas of weapons;
  5. Vulgar or offensive words or phrases.

Promotion Checklist

SAMRU offers printing of up to 75 posters per club each ratification year. To request poster printing for approved events, email the Clubs Coordinator.

Poster Requirements

  • Sizes: 8.5” x 11” or 11” x 17”
  • Format: PDF only (Word Docs, JPGs, and PNGs are not accepted)

Display Locations

  • Clubs are responsible for putting up their posters on community boards around campus. Community boards are unmarked and located in various locations across campus.
  • Additionally, SAMRU provides designated “SAMRU Clubs” boards around campus specifically for club advertising.

  • 3 to 4 business days required for printing

Mandatory Information on Posters

  • Club contact details
  • Event details: date, time, location
  • Event organizer contact information
  • If alcohol is served:
    • Licensed Event, No Minors (if applicable)
    • Valid ID Required
    • Don’t Drink and Drive

Additional Information

⚠️ Please note, any unapproved marketing materials posted on non-designated spaces at MRU will be removed by the managing department. If this happens, clubs will need to cover the cost of replacing these posters.

Promote your event online with digital signs at Wyckham House and listings on the SAMRU Events Calendar and social media

Digital Signs

Clubs can request one digital advertising campaign per semester, displayed in Wyckham House for one week.

  • Size Requirements: 1920px x 1080px (landscape) JPG
  • Submission Notice: At least one week in advance

SAMRU Events Calendar

  • Promote your approved events by having them added to the Clubs Calendar on the SAMRU website. Fill out the provided form in your Activity Approval Confirmation, and SAMRU will add your approved events to SAMRU’s Events Calendar and share them in a template on our Instagram/Facebook stories.
  • A generic clubs-style visual will be used for website calendar events, and a generic template will be used for social media sharing.

Social Media

  • Clubs are responsible for their own social media accounts and must adhere to SAMRU’s Safe Space Guidelines and MRU Student Community Standards.
    • Tag SAMRU on social media, and we’ll share your post in our stories! 
    • Events must have received an Activities Approval confirmation to utilize this benefit.
    • SAMRU reserves the right to report any social media posts that violate SAMRU and/or MRU policies
