Club Mission
The MRU Hike Club provides Mount Royal University students with an inclusive and welcoming community centered around hiking, outdoor recreation, exploration, and personal growth. The Club creates opportunities for students of all experience levels to participate in outdoor activities, develop hiking and outdoor skills, meet new people, and build friendships in a supportive group environment.
The Club aims to make hiking more accessible to students by providing opportunities to learn fundamental hiking skills, practice responsible outdoor recreation, and gain confidence and experience. Through organized hikes, outdoor events, education, and mentorship, the Club promotes community, inclusivity, safety, learning, environmental responsibility, respect, and leadership.
Club Description
The MRU Hike Club operates by organizing group hikes, outdoor activities, educational opportunities, and social events that allow students to participate in outdoor recreation at a level appropriate to their experience, abilities, comfort, and preparedness. The Club provides guidance and preparation for students who are new to hiking while also creating opportunities for experienced hikers to share their knowledge and develop leadership skills.
The Club works to accomplish its mission by promoting safe and responsible outdoor recreation, providing practical education in areas such as trail awareness, navigation, trip preparation, outdoor etiquette, and emergency preparedness, and encouraging respect for natural environments, wildlife, park regulations, and Indigenous communities.
